X is better than Y

What the hell does "X is better than Y" mean when X and Y are people and there are no other quantifiers? Because as far as I know, it means nothing.

I would guess it has to do with X & Y chromosomes. The hot chicks has two X's while the dudes have an X and a Y.

I wasn't talking about chromosomes. Maybe I should have used A and B instead of X and Y.
