The Man, the Legend

(Continued from the this entry)

As the third son of the North's ruling house, Lord Alston was not expected to become king, let alone lead armies and people to salvation. But when his eldest brother Lord Basil was killed through his own dark ambition, and his elder brother Lord Lyonel captured by the central Roycan faction, it eventually fell to Lord Alston to settle the conflict once and for all. He reluctantly donned the king's crown.

First sons of great houses are expected to learn the sword and campaigning, religion, music and politics. Lord Basil was not an apt student, however, and he put his own designs for power ahead of his responsibilities to family and people. This ultimately led to his betrayal and death by the Roycan. Lesser sons, such as Alston, are typically given more leeway to follow different paths. Alston chose to study the first the staff as a weapon, and later, the mystic arts. It was quite fortunate that he did, for the Roycan forces drew upon magics that at the time were little-known and considered new. Alston was able to counter their knowledge with his own, and after two years, finally crushed the Roycan and rescued Lord Lyonel.

Upon Lord Lyonel's return, Lord Alston turned the realm over to his brother, and spent the rest of his days travelling the world, perfecting his staff fighting and focusing his energy into the study of magic. Followers appeared in the hundreds during his lifetime, and in the thousands centuries after his death. It is said that his equipment still bears some of his essence.

Alston's Arcane Assembly

Alston's Mystic Punishment (fighting staff)
This staff was the one that Alston used in fighting throughout the Roycan conflict. It was also a constant companion on his travels, helping Alston walk in his twilight years.

Required: melee lv 59, two-handed lv 3
  • Damage: 80-126
  • Slow attack speed
  • +33 strength
  • +3 to Brilliance, Amplified Lightning and Arcing
  • +3 to Fortitude, Overbear and Smite
Alston's Divine Integrity (chain mail)
As the conflict raged, Alston quickly realized that quickly thinking and competent campaigning would not always be enough to save his life. He required armor that was not just strong, but supple enough for staff fighting. As Alston approached what the northerners of those days called samsaris, or "inner peace with total focus", not only were these goals achieved, but he also had a strange resistance to harmful magical effects.

Required: melee lv 63
  • Armour: 316
  • +25% resistance to fire, lightning and ice
  • +60% resistance to death magic
  • +3 to Barricade, Toughness and Reinforced Armor
  • Divine Aura (+25 to armor for surrounding friendly units)
Alston's Cleansing Flame (ring)
This ring is said to have been donned by Alston when he took the crown for the war effort. It never left Alston's finger while he was alive. Through this item, he channeled fire spirits and became as a living flame, scouring his enemies from the battlefield.

Required: combat magic lv 61
  • +1 to combat magic skills
  • +75 to maximum damage
  • +3 to Devastation, Searing Flames, Ignite
  • +33 to Intelligence
Alston's Swift Wind (leg armor)
Drawing heavily from his time with the Trefanese in pre-war years, Alston saw the need for swiftness in retreat and pursuit as well as quickness in battle. This allowed him to move and react more quickly than other men, giving him a clear advantage.

Required: melee lv 54
  • Armour: 98
  • +8% walking speed
  • +18% attack speed
  • +8% health regeneration
  • +8% mana regeneration
  • +15% chance to dodge melee attack
  • +15% chance to dodge ranged attack
Alston's Dual Defense (diadem)
Rather than wear (and potentially damage) the crown of the realm, Alston had a special diadem made for battle. This diadem allowed him to further focus on tactical defense. It also granted him the inner resolve to destroy the Roycan's magical attacks. Over time, he was even said to be able to reflect all attacks to the attacker.

Required: melee lv 66
  • Armour: 113
  • 25% of melee damage reflected to enemy
  • 25% of magic damage reflected to enemy
  • +188 to health
  • +130 to mana
