Blogging for life

| | Comments (7)

If I could, I'd blog, read blogs, read news, everyday. For a living. I'm pretty good at reading stuff that I want to online. If I had more time and felt less guilty I'd do a better job, I think. At home I'm with Rose, or playing some videogame, or something, which is why I don't blog more. But if I could do what I want to do for a living, then I might choose this for a while.

Anyone want to pay me for enjoying myself? I guess not many people get paid for that. I suppose I should spend some time here. There seems to be such an emphasis these days on finding what you are meant to do and going after it. But what the hell does that mean? Finding out why you were put here? What if I was put here to wonder why I'm here? Or to be tired of leaving messages all day (it's really not THAT bad)? And why is portrayed as a guarantee of a full and successful life? There are no guarantees.

Hmph. Pay me for doing exactly what I want to do, all the time. Pay me for playing Warcraft. Pay me for spending time with Rose. Now THAT's a charmed life.

If you don't feel like writing posts on barbarasher.com, then don't. I just feel it's a great way to discuss your issues without paying 60$ an hour for a life coach (not that it's a bad option, far from that but, not for everybody). It helped me, when I wanted to change my life.

Then, just to remind you: Richard Martineau IS reading blogs, news everyday and writing a blog FOR A LIVING. If he can, I don't see why a super smart guy like you could not.

Now, for being paid to spend time with me, wait until I start my awesome retreat center and hire you as my Training Development Director. You'll have your office right beside mine and I'll let you play some Warcraft, as long as you do your job. :)

I'm of the firm belief that what fulfills you should not also pay the bills. Otherwise, what will you do to de-stress? And don't tell me that your dream job could never possibly stress you out.

I also highly doubt there is a reason for us being here.

What you would do to de-stress otherwise? Yet something else that fulfills you! Example: One loves writing and massage; one gives massage for a living and write during free time.

I'm kinda with with Liz on this. Do something you're passionate about. Unfortunately money and salary are stress related.

You mean you're with me! Yes, you're with me. Because, really, doing something shitty makes you tire easily even before the day is over.

I would be worried that if I did what I loved to make a living that I would eventually become tired of it and then I wouldn't find pleasure in it anymore. One of the things that makes something pleasurable to me is that it is JUST FOR ME - I don't have to give a piece of it to anyone else. Don't get me wrong, I need to LIKE what I do for a living and feel fulfilled by it (from a career perspective), but I don't look to my career as needing to fulfill or define my entire life. But that's for me - no everyone feels the same way, so each should do what works for them.

I say "make your hobby your job" and all will be well.
