Rose and I are playing a game.
She was so painfully bored at work that she decided to do some stream-of-consciousness writing. SOC writing amounts to just typing out whatever comes to mind that very second. I've seen that sort of thing in porn spam emails, in order to fool the spam filters. Anyway, she came up with the sentence:
"What is bland if not the sacred highlighter in this chamber of foolishness?"
Our game is to ascribe some actual meaning to this sentence. We decided that it was a sarcastic dismissal of the self-important pedantic office bitch.
What do YOU think it means? Liz came up with:
Chamber of foolishness = subconscious/conscious mind
The bland parts of our lives separate and highlight the "interesting" parts. "Sacred" being that we learn more from our down time and should appreciate it more.
I thought that was pretty deep.
Daywalker came up with:
Clearly, upon first reading we are discussing the place of work. More specifically a desk drawer in which lies a so-called "sacred" highlighter. The drawer is part of a desk, the desk a symbol of corporate toil. The highligher, bland to the thinker in this case is a symbol of corporate-ness, which to most in the corporate world is a wonder! Ah! The highlighter with with I may highlight my life! My purpose! Is there nothing more lovely than that glowing emblem of fluorescetude?! But the the thinker... there is. Bland, it is.
meaning: Fuck, am I bored at work.
